in short, your reason is the armor set bonuses.
Are there any other different opinions?

Dude, armor buneses are not all. Gladis have lot higher number of Heavy Armor skills to learn than Light. So, heavy works lot better. Trust me on this one. i may be a mage person but I had some Gladis in my L2 career...

Be cool, I'm outta here for now!

All what did Red said is true, no need for anothe opinion, its well known that Gladiators needs heavy arrmors, the reason why is in what Red just wrote.

As the both said, heavy is best for a gladi, because of the heavy bounses and the fact that a gladi learn more heavy skills than light.

gladis have the same masteries in BOTH types of armors >.> depends entirely on your play style-if you're the "tank" type gladi, then, yes, heavy is the way forward, on the other hand, if you're the "DD" type gladi, a light set that boosts your damadge output (eg: draconic) might be preferable. also, you get better evasion in a light set, which might help you against some classes more than your pdef will. all depends on the situation and your preferred play style-ive seen them wearing both types, and ive won and lost gladi v gladi in both types.

I see anijie's opinion more clearer than the others. But you didn't answer my question anijie >.<
and i think the other guys had a bit of confusion because heavy and light armor on gladiators both will stop on lvl 50. So what is your real reason for choosing heavy?

btw, i'm gonna make a pvp-ish gladi...

More P.Def :D

Depends what sort of pvp you're going to do, as always with this game, there's a lot of personal choise here, and whichever type you take, noone can say you're "wrong" or "right". I wouldnt chose to wear heavy against a mage, especially not if we are talking s grade, because whats the point in a higher pdef? On the other hand, a +6 draconic set will not only boost you'r mdef, but will also let you hit faster, allowing for more interrupts =] However, if i was fighting a paladin, it would be a different matter, especially if he was using a blunt.....my evasion wouldnt mean anything to him, so a heavy set would help to offset his attacks, while at the same time giving me a higher chance to get through his exceptional pdef (talking s grade again-IC=+2 str). Basically, chose whichever set you feel suits your style (getting hit more for less damadge, or getting hit less for more damadge), or even, get both sets and change as the situation dictates.^^

BTW, im NOT voting in this poll, because i dont think there is a "better" set, although i do usually play my gladis (if i play them) in heavy, but thats normally because i have a heavy set from one of my tank subs >.>

I know it sucks but it's easiest to either learn from your own mistakes or listen to what everyone has said so far...In the end it's you thats playing, just sucks when you think you've wasted your time since it takes a while to lvl in this game.
Take a risk and try someting out ;)
