View Full Version : How to buff a Soultaker - AKA Necromancer.
Hello
This thread will be about buffing Necromancers "Soultakers".
Please post here how would YOU buff your Soultaker and why.
After we all agree on how a Soultaker should be buffed, THIS post will be edited to include the information on it.

1 Quick question: what is our buff limit here? Can we take as many buffs as we like, or are we limited official-style? (tbh, I don't have a clue how many buffs a soultaker can have on official). Also, what duration are we looking at for our buffs? Official-style (songs&dances=2 mins) or all buffs 19 mins? Also, what are we doing with this soultaker? PvE, PvP(vs mages), PvP(vs fighters) or PvP(general).
If I was playing a soultaker(when would that be? o.O), and I had access to a prophet, an elven elder, a shilien elder and both orc mages, and I was going for farming/leveling while in a clan war (general pvp buffs while also having pve capability), I would use the following buffs: Acumen, Wind Walk, BtB, BtS, Shield, Mental Shield, Empower, Resist Shock, Unholy Resistance, Elemental Resistance, Clarity(IF this buff lasts 19 mins), Wild Magic, Greater Shield, Chant of Evasion, Chant of Revenge, Pa'agrio's Rage.
Now comes the tricky part. Spirit-type buffs only last 4 mins. So, if I take one, my buff round is reduced to 4 mins. On the other hand, adding one wil make me able to go through mobs much easier, and thus gain more xp. If I was aiming for a 3 minute farm (giving me 1 min to get to the farming area), the one I would chose would be dependant on my equipment. Assuming basic Dark Crystal robes and a SoM Acumen, I'd take Chant of Magnus (increased mattack), however, were I in Major Arcana, I'd use either Chant of Victory or Victories of Pa'agrio (the same buff, different targets). If I was using the full 19 mins buff round, and had a DC in tow, I'd use CoV while i was PvE, and change to CoM for PvP, no matter what gear i had.
OFC, I've not mentioned dances and songs, because, if I had a dancer and a singer along, not only would they be dancing/singing all the time, they would be dancing/singing differently depending on the party makeup, and, also, I would not expect them to dance/sing for mages as a priority-tank dances/songs come first, then, if the tank has room, mage dances (unless we have enough people to make 2 parties, in which case, dances, songs and chants become even more complex).
And a final word on summoner buffs: summon buffs give that extra little edgein both PvP and PvE, but they are similar in application to songs/dances, and you can only have 2 active at any one time. My choise for a necro would be blessing of seraphim (think thats the right one-anyways, the one that reduces reuse delay).
If anyone wants my ideas on how to buff necro with no buff limit/specific buff limit different to official, and with 1 hour all buffs (including songs and dances), I will post it here, but I think this is enough to start with >.>

Lets say we have 2 servers and buffs lasts for a long time in both:
1. Server with buffs Limit, for example (2 lines and a half).
2. Server with no buffs limit.
What is the perfect buffs in your openion for a SoulTaker in both cases.
Now...
We usually buff for pvp and for hunting, and we pvp either a fighter or a mage.
What is the perfect buffs for a SoulTaker in the following Situation:
1. SoulTaker going hunting.
2. SoulTaker Vs Fighter.
3. SoulTaker Vs Mage.

If i was buffing a necromancer on the "perfect" pvp server (in my opinion of pvp servers-ie: no buff limit (buff limit gimps tanks), buff timers ALL 1 hour+, NPC buffer offering ALL buffs), i would use the following setup: Acumen, Concentration, Blessed Body, Blessed Soul, Invigor, Resist Shock, Mental Shield, Shield, Magic Barrier, Regeneration, Resist Aqua, Resist Wind, Resist Fire, Wind Walk, (Bless Shield)-only if I have a shield, (Decrease Weight)-depends on the server weight limit, Wild Magic, Clarity, Greater Empower, Greater Shield, Elemetal Protection, Divine Protection, Arcane Protection, Holy Resistance, Unholy Resistance, (Blessing of Seraphim)-only if the seraphim buffs stack (I know servers where they do), Gift of Seraphim, Rage of Pa'agrio, Pa'agrio's Fist, "Some Pa'agrio buff that acts like Chant of Spirit, but stacks with Chant of Spirit"(I forgot it's name >.<), Chant of Spirit, Chant of Evasion, Chant of Revenge; Dances: Mystic, Concentration, Siren's, Aqua and Earth Guard; Songs: Earth, Water, Warding, Wind, Life, Vitality, Vengance, Flame Guard, Storm Guard, Renewal, Meditation, Champion, Chant of Magnus.
The above buff list is the set of buffs I would use on any non-bishop mage class. Were I to have to cut it down, the resistance buffs would be the first things to get chopped, however, NOT Unholy Resistance (when in pvp, there are loads of dark attacks flying around-I once buffed my paladin with unholy resistance on a server where it was not in the npc, and then laughed at the necros that anchored me then hit for 1-200 dmg (anchor land rate was bugged, and i had +20 jewels, but still...), and couldn't finish me before anchor wore off.^^)

but seriously depends on each server buffs limits, and the rate of dmg on other classes... like u wont add unholy resistance, if they r hittin u for low dmg.. u might as well use the buff for summin else..

Song of Hunter increases crit rate.....how is this useful for a mage?.......and at Unholy Resistance-gives you practical immunity against necros/sphs, so, personally, I think its a very important buff.

Excuse me for the intervention, but I might dare to add one certain buff (to the fine one listed above by the L2 expert Anjie ) and that would be Profecy of water. I played mostly on low rate servers (on c4) and a necromancer in DC set with SoM+3 with Accumen with normal Prophet and Shilen Elder buffs and PoW made necromancer pretty good (1427 cast speed ). Now as I said, I played mostly on low rate server and I not experimented with all buffs (summoners buffs and orc buffs are a total enigma for me :) ), but for me a normal buffed necro would be like this:
Necro lvl 70 in DC set with Majesetic jewels set with SoM +3 with accumen with normal prophet buffs and se buffs but I would prefer to take with me also am ee bd and sws. (for farming)

Prophecy of Water is a good mage buff, IF you know how to use it. The major benefit it gives is increased magic crit rate. I have seen people buff with a combination of PoWater, boss jewels, and mcrit augments to get a mcrit rate of something around 600%-basically, every shot is a critical. However, if you don't have the items (usual on a low rate, boss jewels are easier to come by on high rates) CoM or CoV will be more useful (yes, they are both orc buffs-you should find a friendly DoomCryer and get him to buff you-you'll notice a difference) as you will get more casting speed/mattack etc etc.

Well I'll try that (whenever that will be possible) and see the diference. Thanks for the advice.
