pls help im just starting

im just starting and not sure which character to pick. im looking for one thats up close and personal that can deliver alot of damage but i dont want to be a summoner or mage.

Alot of damage and not mages: Hawkeye, Treasure Hunter, Tyrant, Gladiator, etc...

I would also suggest human fighter and then when you get lvl 20 I recommend you the Rogue(Hawkeye) class..
The Talking Island(the place where humans start) is in my opinion the easiest of all of the starting locations.

If you want the "Ultimate Melee Race", choose an orc fighter. Of the 2 different progressions, both have excelent HP, good damadge output in melee, and reasonable defence. Their one downfall is their speed. But, if you can live with that, Tyrant is great for combat control (about 3 or 4 stun skills, cripple, and a lot of utility skills, including a skill that increases speed for a short period (negates the major weakness), PLUS, a reasonable ranged attack that is better than Gladiator's because it uses less "charge" (you'll understand if you play one to level 40). Destroyer, on the other hand, is often quoted as "the best class" (I wouldn't go THAT far, but it's good...). 2-handed weapons give as much damadge potential as bows (but only in melee), plus the skills you have that up your pattack help a lot, especially frenzy, which was (is?) sufficiently good that a whole form of leveling/farming was made for it.
